I bought this book as soon as I read a review about it in "The Writer" Magazine (Dec 09, pg 44, by Amy Wallen).In an irony to the subject, flash fiction, the introduction of this field guide is the longest chapter in the entire book, weighing-in at 26 pages. Despite its length, Ms. Misah provides the reader with an interesting history of flash fiction.I found the essays within this guidebook to be useful and informative. Each essay ranged from 3-9 pages, which included a writing prompt and an example of flash fiction. As you could expect, the authors had some differences of opinion on what makes an effective short-short story. What they did agree on, was that each story should be thought-provoking and leave the reader with an indelible image.I found most of the story examples, "thought provoking" alright. My usual responses were, "huh?" or even, "What was that all about?"I guess I'm not the literary type. I'm not into deciphering an author's meaning and images in his or her story.My favorite was "Inside Job" by Pamela Painter. In this flash--(warning! Plot spoiler ahead!)--a university couple are attending a party. After noticing her husband hit on another one of his graduate students, Marla goes into the kitchen to grab a drink, but accidently douses her blouse with seltzer water. One of Marla's graduate students tries to help dab off the water and she guides his hand--underneath her blouse.Whew!Talk about an "indelible image!"I rate this book a solid four stars. This is more out of personal bias. With the exception of "Inside Job," it's hard for me to get excited over a how-to book. However, for anyone interested in writing flash fiction, or improving their craft in this niche-genre, this is an invaluable guide.

I've got this book as well as the Rose Metal Field Guide to Flash Non-Fiction and I love them both. They both follow the same format, an essay on writing followed by a prompt or exercise and an example piece. The included examples are themselves almost worth the price of admission. The reading list at the back is wonderful as well and can take you further. Highly recommended if Flash Fiction is your area of interest!

One chapter on Titles is poorly written, but the introduction is great and several chapters are very strong. I like how they have sample stories after each chapter, and the flash activities each chapter offers would work well in a class or for a group of writers meeting together, or even on your own if you don't have a group.

This collection of 25 essays from experts in the flash fiction field, is an excellent introduction to flash fiction for those new to the genre and a great guide for established writers. Each essay explores a different facet of the flash fiction genre from length, to form, to editing. In addition to the essays, most of the contributors also include exercises and examples which I find very useful. An excellent guide to writing flash fiction that should be read by anyone interested in the genre.

Essays by influential voices in the Flash Fiction world (authors and editors), along with sample stories and great advice. Highly recommended if you're at all interested in this fierce little form.

I loved this book! Each section is written by a different accomplished flash fiction writer and focuses on a different aspect of writing flash fiction. It's followed by a story that illustrates the point, then an assignment. It's good for beginners but also those further along in writing flash, who want to branch out to new methods and ideas. I'd recommend this book for anyone who is interested in writing flash fiction.

I don't know what to say, I'm still reading. It is very comprehensive, not something to just read through. It will take some thinking as you along. It is a very high view of God and comes from a reformed understanding of the scripture. It is helping me understand the nature of God in a much deeper way. It is a very large work, but very much worth the read.

This is a masterpiece! In this work we can delve into some of the attributes of God. Charnock is not a man of few words, and that is a positive fact in this book. Our great God cannot be understood nor described by a few words. He goes deep in the study of God and it is a blessing to learn even more about God's character through his work. Every Christian should read this book. I used it on a Sunday School Class along other material such as "Our Awesome God" by John Macarthur and "The Attributes of God" by Steve Lawson (Teaching Series from Ligonier Ministries).

I once heard a very godly man discussing the five books, other than the Bible, that had impacted him the most. At the top of his list was Stephen Charnock's The Existence and Attributes of God. Here's an excerpt of what he said: "...I think the first book—and I say this because it had such a profound impact on me—would be Steven Charnock’s The Existence and Attributes of God. I didn’t grow up in a Reformed environment. When I discovered Reformed theology, it was in Charnock. I didn’t know it was possible to have that many thoughts about God...It is inexhaustible." Soli Deo Gloria!

Criticism of the accuracy of this version are greatly exaggerated. Yes, there are some typos, but they are neither excessive nor all that distracting. I love e-books because it is easy to take notes from them. When you consider what the person providing this book had to do in checking a 1,000+ pages for errors and, then, selling it for a mere pittance, the presence of scattered errors, that are not difficult to discern and ignore, are nothing to hinder anyone from buying it. I heartily thank the publisher for making my work with Charnock a whole lot easier.

This book written so long ago remains a Christian Classic. Charnock brilliantly expounds the attributes of God and should be a must read for any serious student of the Word of God. It took a while for me to plow through this book but was well worth my time and I graciously recommend it for your reading pleasure.

With the Scriptures being the authoritative text over everything, I will, without hesitation, say that this is THE authoritative text written by a man on the subjecsts of the existence and attributes of God. You will not find another book on the same level as this one anywhere.If you do not mind reading 17th century English, and you have not read this, you are missing out on a monumental work.

Stephen Charnock, a 17th century Puritan theologian, pulls together all of Holy Scripture that addresses each of the attributes of God (sovereignty, power, wisdom, omniscence, eternity, holiness, goodness, dominion, patience). In logical and deductive fashion he expounds on the Scripture to reveal how His attributes are manifested and what man's response should be. The response of man to all of God's attributes should be worship and praise. Charnock exposes the true nature and heart of man and his place in God's creation (as a creature) as set apart from the animals (brutes) for the express purpose of recognizing God in His creation and our need and obligation to worship and praise Him. He exposes in honest and forthright fashion man's great responsibility for sin, his lack of reverence to God, his half-hearted worship, his desire to be like a God, his depravity. However, the longest discourse in this two volume set is on the Goodness of God, one of His attributes that man in his fallen state conveniently forgets at times. How good is God to give us a redemption that allows us to have a restored innocence through an immutable source, His Son Jesus Christ; a state that Adam (and man) had he remained innnocent would never have. There would always be a distance between Adam and God. Through Christ we have access to our Sovereign God and Creator. These discourses magnify your understanding of God in Scripture, puts man in his place in regards to His Creator, and has drawn me to a more true and closer relationship to the Trinity. This is a most profound work and has quite literally blown me away. Stephen Charnock would be an additional guest at my table along with the apostle Paul if I had the chance to have dinner with any two people who ever walked on this earth. Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens; Praise Him in the heights!

What a disappointment! Blood Song is one of my favorite books ever, and I waited impatiently for the sequel for almost two years. Sadly, Tower Lord fell far short of my expectations. I had a very difficult time finishing the book. Equally dividing the story among four characters made it hard to follow any one story line as it switched back and forth, and I thought the character development was lacking on Reva. Vaelin played a relatively minor role in this book, and was just a shadow of the person he was in Blood Song. Things simply dragged. I can see where Mr. Ryan is going with this story, but I'm sorry to say I'm not sure if I want to continue the journey with him.

Well if there is one thing I can say about the sequel to Blood Song it would be, DIFFERENT! Tower Lord was so different to the point that I though I was reading a completely different series. Not that any of that is a bad thing, in some ways it actually made the series and this book more enjoyable then the first!Tower Lord picks up 5 years after Blood Song ends and that is really all I can say without spoiling this book since it is a sequel. What I can tell you is we continue to follow the story of Vaelin Al Sorna, however this book now follows multiple perspectives and not just one. This was by far the biggest change from Blood Song and one I enjoyed very much. Even though I do love my single perspective stories and Vaelin is an amazing protagonist. I can tell you that we follow 4 characters in total Vaelin, Lyrna from the first book, Reva who is newly introduced to this book, and one other returning character who I cannot mention because hello spoilers.Of the 4 perspectives we follow Reva and said character I shall not mention were by far the most entertaining to read from. Reva is this tough and strong willed female character whose story is quite emotional and powerful. Anytime there was a Reva chapter I literally perked up. Now said character I cannot mention's story was heart wrenching. There were so many feelings going through my head while reading from their two perspectives. Lyrna was never boring but her chapters were definitely the more political side of the story. Vaelin, oh Vaelin, his chapters to me were a let down. He went from being one of my favorite characters from the first book and I just feel like his chapters didn't really do much to push the story forward. I still love his character though. He has got such a strong head on him. Definitely not one of those meat headed male characters in some series out in the world.Tower Lord's story is leaps and bounds better then Blood Song!! That is where this book does it for me. It has just the right amount of action and politics that is right for me! Also with Tower Lord we start to dive a little more deeper into the magic system in this world. We kind of got a hint of it in Blood Song but we do learn more about it here. The magic in the Raven's Shadow series are known as Gifts and only certain people in the world are known as Gifted. If you are Gifted then you are looked at in a poorly manner of someone touched by the dark and who the Faith has abandoned. I hope we get to discover more of the magic system in the final book because it is fairly fascinating.I think I will leave my review at that, on to the final book, Queen of Fire!!

It begins very slowly and too much time is spent following characters who never really make a difference to the story. If I had not loved the first book in the series I probably would have stopped reading this one within the first 20% of the book. As it was I kept wondering when the book would become interesting and when any character would do something to engage or entertain me. I'm still wondering. It was nice to see some of the characters from the first book, but it would have been nicer if they had done something interesting. Much of the conflict in the first book was Valin trying to balance the competing interests of doing right by his comrades, his order, his king, his conscience, the memory of his mother, and his own desires. There is no internal conflict in this story, other than the initial superficial conflict Reva experiences. Characters have clear desires and move toward their goals mindlessly. In the first book the Princess is everyone's favorite villain, although much like Janus she does have the interests of the realm at heart. In this book she is another robotic hero moving relentless towards her goals with none of the underhanded scheming and complex manipulation which filled book one. I'll still read the third book, but it won't be nearly as hard to wait for it to be published.

I feel a bit let down after the brilliance of Anthony Ryan's debut novel, Blood Song. Tower Lord follows four POVs (Vaelin, Frentis, Lyrna, and a new character, Reva), and had so many supporting characters, I had trouble keeping them all straight (even with the appendix in the back). The pacing was incredibly slow in the first third, and it was difficult both remembering everyone and staying interested.Once the pacing picked up, it became an easier read. Surprisingly, I think I liked Lyrna best of all. Vaelin was, of course, a consistently admirable character. But overall, Tower Lord was a a disappointing and disjointed follow-up to Blood Song.

5 years after the events of book one we come back to the same cool interesting world. Some things have changes, most importantly the protagonists, while book 1 was all Vaelin, we now have multiple PoV's Game of Throne's style. Plot wise we have a serious war this time. The kingdom gets invaded by the evil slaver empire. The books is different from the first, but still very worth checking out, the overall world arch is also further shown, and turns out to be quite an interesting concept. Characters stay layered and complex so no cardboard cutouts even on the evil side.P.S. Bonus points for actual plot resolution and no annoying cliffhangers

I can't believe this book. It's as if another author took the place of the writer of Blood Song. I'm a third of the way through the book and it's so confusing. I know that a change and character build up is always the way series are written, but this is to many people, too many stories and the writing does not seem as skilled as the last book. I really wanted to ignore the other reviews and give this a chance but sadly it doesn't hold my interest.

He was a hollow man until Rue filled him up and humanised him. He'd come from a monied family and earned more in his own right. He was fascinated by the down-to-earth Rue and at the same time, somewhat repelled by her choices (why live in Whiskey Hollow when you can live in an apartment in the city?).Rue's friends Tessie and Christopher made great additions to the secondary characters, and revisiting Cletus, Jeb, and Bubba Ray (and his recipes) was pretty fun. I enjoyed the storyline, and the homey magic of Whiskey Hollow.The Christmas Surprise: I was absolutely delighted to see another story set in the Hollow! All Holly wants to do is escape Christmas, her least favourite time of the year. She meets gorgeous Graham, the single dad off to see his son for Christmas. But when they are serendipitously stuck in Whiskey Hollow due to a storm, anything can (and does!) happen. I love the crazy happenings in the Hollow almost as much as I enjoy the love stories that happen there, and I think this book has far surpassed the rest. Graham & his young son Charlie are going to take the Bah Humbug out of Christmas for Holly. This book is filled with love, humour, and total quirk. Once you've had a taste of Whiskey Hollow, you're gonna want more!Redemption: This book was simply full of complicated feels. The histories of the main characters, Garrett and Gwendolyn, were secret and tragic, and made them both fearful of fully loving & trusting. Their path to embracing their fears and healing with love was full of bumps but they made it! Mr Banks is one of my favourite authors because he writes about emotions fully and deeply. There was a great sense of contentment and closure as I finished this fantastic book. Beautifully written, highly recommended.

Because this is a box set...longer review.First, I'm just getting into romance novels. This was a cheap but surprising find. Stories had GREAT dialogues, funny situations and ( because I'm tall -5'11) relatable . I will tell you I have never went back and read sections and highlighted while chapters in my life. Just note that each book has moments to treasure. Strong females and males ( cocky but bearable)Accidental Daddy- the midnight search of a haunted house will have you dying laughing(pun intended)Becoming Daddy-resturant scene with shotty patrons..I can see this happening, how else would you handle a pregnant, hysterical woman...oh, you will love Rue's name...Still laughingChristmas Surprise...the whole book is highlighted but the plane ride was read three(3) times through tears of laughter.The other two stories Hot Daddy and Redemption were more serious and made me appreciate single fathers.

Reading these fantastic stories made my heart flutter and my pulse speed away. The romance and the sweetnessof the led lady is wild.. Tle lead men are dominating and domineering; and down right sizzling .Definitely must reads.R.R Banks talented pen has definitelyearned a FIVE STAR RATING. Recommeneded!!

Each of these stories in this box set is incredible and uniquely inspiring in their own way. I love this author and his way of taking me on a journey in each story. Passion, chemistry and most of all love for each other and the children involved. These are worth the price and I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I did!! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this box set. Loved so much I bought my own forever copy!!!

I can't believe I am doing this because I gave this series one star after reading the 1st two books...I should have finished all the books before rating this boxed set...Book 3 was much better. I thought my husband was going to call the funny farm after he heard me roaring with laughter. Man you have to love the people that live in Whiskey Hollow....I owe RR Banks an huge apology....So far I am now in the middle of book four and am liking it..Up graded from to a 1 star to a 4.star.

A compilation of men who had either one-night stands or a short affair. The tragedy to some of them about not knowing about their children is heartbreaking. A real heart pulling and side taking story. I’d like to say, “Bag It” or “Be Smart”, but then the series wouldn’t work.Accidental Daddies: A Contemporary Romance Box Set

This is a great boxed set of 5 of R. R. Banks Daddy themed books. The characters in each story are interesting, well-developed and have chemistry. The stories are all interesting, well-written, with a happily ever after. You can't go wrong with a book by R.R. Banks. I highly recommend this boxed set.

I enjoyed these books. All the books can be read as stand alone books, but a couple are related. Each book has a happy ending. They are all easy to read and kept my interest. The books do contain adult themes. There are sex scenes, but nothing overly erotic or distracting or distasteful. I do recommend this box set. Enjoy and happing reading. This review is strictly my opinion.

I have the following reasons for loving this book:1. This book has one of the best explanations of the meaning of gradient, divergence, curl, and the Laplacian I've ever seen.2. The diagrams deriving the magnitude and direction of the centripetal acceleration vector are beautiful.3. I found the end of chapter problems "do-able" and there is a nice web-site to go along with the book showing complete answers and solutions if you get stuck.4. There is a gentle but rigorous introduction and explanation of covariant and contravariant vector components which is very nicely done.5. The book starts to get more abstract when it discusses tensors, tensor derivatives, and Christoffel symbols but the author does an excellent job explaining them along with giving examples of their use.6. The last chapter has 3 more very nice detailed examples of tensor use. Although I read the clear explanation of the first two (the inertia tensor and the electromagnetic field tensor), I omitted the end of chapter problems dealing with these examples since I wanted to concentrate my attention on the tensors involved with General Relativity. The author does a superb job explaining the foundations of General Relativity and the origin and use of the Riemann Curvature Tensor. Along with this he shows how the Ricci Tensor and Ricci Scalar come about. The author does a great job giving an example of how the Riemann Curvature Tensor is calculated for a 2-dimensional spherical surface.If I had anything I wish I could have seen it would be to have a little more explanation of the Ricci Tensor and the Ricci Scalar in the last chapter. Also, although they were briefly mentioned, I would like to have seen more dealing with the "Einstein Tensor" and the "Einstein Field Equation". But, that could have easily lead to another chapter which was probably beyond the goal of what this book was trying to teach.In summary, I don't think you could find a better introductory book for vectors and tensors than this one!

This book surpasses any other math/physics book I have ever read. I no longer write reviews, but for this one I will. This book actually describes the "geometric" difference between co and contra variant tensors. I have never seen this done before. I spent weeks years ago trying to figure the difference(geometrically). One is upper and the other lower incidences, so what. This book would have put me so far ahead, why did someone not do it earlier. The part on vectors is great, but the tensor part is the best I have ever seen. This book is like cheating!! Instead of banging you head on the wall one hundred times, it like some putting a pillow between you and the wall and saying just bang your head once. I am finishing string theory, having already completed general relativity and quantum field theory. I know what I am talking about. I know money is tight so I would never endorse a book that wasted money. This book puts you at the graduate level fast, again this book is like cheating.For the prices and time saved now and later, I would have payed three times the price years ago.NOTE: I did not do a chapter by chapter review because it was not needed. This book gives the geometric as well as the mathematical view.Look at all the reviews around me. I found some errors in the book, but guess what the author already has the errors posted. I cannot say enough about this book. Also the solutions are posted online, you do not have to look at them but you will know if you did the problem right. This man really wants to teach. He also has videos on youtube to show you visually what is going on. I am finishing up string theory and I picked up a few new things from this book. If you understand what is going on geometrically you can understand what is going on. Tell your friends the geometric different between co and contra variant tensors, some graduate students do not know the geometric difference, try it.

I have read many books that introduce such objects and concepts as coordinate transformations, contra/co-variance, covariant differentiation, parallel transport, Christoffel symbols and a host of important tensors, A clear understanding of these will allow a person to advance their understanding of physics dramatically. I read these books not just to deepen my understanding but I am always looking for the best way to teach such concepts to my students. If you are a person trying to find the best book to help you understand these concepts I suggest strongly that you get this text. It is easily the best introduction that I have encountered. I will be recommending it to my students. As always, if you are new to this material please do the exercises before moving to the next chapter. I know I know... life is hard.
