To summarize it, this book is a waste of money.First of all, this book is full of fluff with a lot of extraneous matter, especially if you are pressed for time and the PSAT is nearing. We were only interested in practicing the Verbal (Reading+Writing) sections for my son. The verbal questions have quite a few errors, and the writing section which is supposed to be grammar asks for the main idea of the passage - i.e. it is structured like the reading test. My son, even while taking the test remarked that many of the questions are ambiguous or poorly framed got 4 wrong on the reading section, and 10 wrong on the writing test #2. For comparison, he has scored near perfect on both the math and Verbal sections according to the official college board sample PSAT test + the other tests on Khan academy. Also really annoying and disappointing is that only one test is included in the book. To take the second online test, you have to register online and disclose a lot of personal information about your child including contact information, which I supposed will be used for marketing Kaplan's other services like coaching classes..The Barron's guide is better than this book, but the PSAT book from Ivy-Global with 3 sample tests proved to have the most accurate sample tests compared to the official tests from college board/Khan academy.

I am a math tutor in Staten Island, NY, and have been for 35 years. I bought two copies of this book: one for an SAT student of mine and one for myself. The math sections are terrible. There are questions that are poorly worded, so that there is no way to know what the author meant. In these cases I had to look at the answer in order to know what the question really was. This is not helpful for a student working on his/her own. There are other questions that are written correctly, and have beautifully written explanations, BUT THAT ARE INCORRECT! They are answers and explanations for similar problems, but not for the one asked. It got to the point where I couldn't get through even one lesson without losing significant time to these kinds of errors. I had to stop using the book. I have had these problems with Kaplan books for over ten years, and I am now giving up on them. I will not waste my time and money, nor the time and money of my students, on any more Kaplan books. You would think that a company that prints many tens of thousands (I'm guessing) of the same test prep book that is sold all over the country, this year and for the next few years, and I assume makes good money doing so, would want to publish one with good material. I guarantee you that the math sections in this book were not edited by anyone with a masters or Ph.D. in mathematics. It is clear to me after all these years of dealing with this same problem with their SAT prep books, as well as with their h.s. entrance books, that Kaplan doesn't care about the content of their books, their reputation, or the students they are hurting with faulty questions, and wrong answers and explanations. In contrast, I have never found even one error in any College Board book. If there is a mistake or two in a book, I can note them and still use the book; however, the Kaplan books I've used are so riddled with mistakes that they are not good learning tools. It makes me sad to think how many students working on their own with Kaplan prep books have spent their time only to be confused and taught the wrong thing. Kaplan is putting the growth of their bottom line above helping the students who buy their books, and they should be ashamed of themselves.

The only reason I am giving this review two stars is because it attempts to help prepare an incoming 11th grader for the PSAT.First off, I noticed a good amount of questions have errors in them including wrong numbering of the lines in the reading section and repeating the same answer choice for letter choices. Also, pertaining to the reading section, there are comparatively difficult words that the book expects you to know, yet the College Board had specifically said that the words would be challenging, but simple enough that the meaning can be determined by the context. However, in the PSAT there is no context when the difficult vocabulary is in the answer choices. The answer explanations in the back of the book are very broad and do not explain why certain answers aren't correct even if they seem to be. This is not as much needed for the math section, but is vital for the reading and writing sections. Some answers are phrased "C summarizes the main idea of the passage" and doesn't even explain what that main idea is.The math content in the book is okay. The questions seem adequate, but the Kaplan Strategy they tell you to do everytime is very contradicting, because they also tell you to spend the smallest amount of time as you can. However, the Kaplan strategy can easily take 2-4 minutes for a question that should only take 1.The grammar section of the book is okay, and explains a good amount of grammatical functions like usage and punctuation as well as misused words. The practice in the book is good enough, but I would highly recommend using the Collegeboard New SAT book to help prepare as it is made by the people who also produce the test and this year, the new SAT coming in March is very similar to the new PSAT. I hope this helped!

Book is excellent and the one practice test in the book is fabulous. Comes with detail explanations. However the online test doesn't exist. It's a ploy to get you to sign up for their online tutoring. I went through several pages of "registering" my book only to discover the resource "is no longer available." Very disappointing.

Used to study for the PSAT 2015. My son had no complaints about it. I guess we'll see when the scores come in but he seemed to have an easy time of it.

My son used this as preparation for the PSAT with an online class. He seemed to do well on the test and was in good spirits upon completion.

The questions in this book are poorly written. Many explanations are vague and irrelevant. This is a rushed publication the make a quick buck. The Kaplan SAT prep books in the years before this one were much better quality.

Very good.

This book is not easy to assess. In a way it is a novel, but the postscript directly turns it into something else. Had it not been for this postscript, I would have awarded this book a higher rating. It may be somewhat verbose and predictable, but it was a pleasant read, without any real tension or love interests.Towards the end we are finally introduced to the “Gospel of Mary Magdalene”, which is exactly that, the gospel of Mary Magdalene, according to the author. The central theme of the four gospels, i.e. Jesus’ vicarious sacrifice, is absent. Also absent is any in-depth knowledge of Jewish first century culture. This is a pity, for it takes away from the believability of this ‘gospel’. The author obviously did a lot of research in Cathari history, but is looks as if she relied on Sunday school memories as far as the background to the gospels is concerned. As did Dan Brown, this author claims that the gospels were extensively edited in the time of Constantine. This, if it were true, would be rather convenient. There is actually no evidence for it, and plenty against it. In my observation it is not the bible believing people who are one-eyed and ignore historical evidence, but rather those who want to debunk the scriptures.Be that as it may, this book certainly held my attention. It was also, at times, quite funny, but I was not always sure whether the humour was intended or not.

I bought this as a gift. I already have my own copy, which I loved, and I went on to read the other two books in the series. She really brings Mary Magdalene to life and not at all in a dull way. The book has mystery, intrigue, and it's a page turner. As for the comparison with Dan Browns book which came out around the same time - well I loved that one, too. There were similarities but they really weren't the same and I think Kathleen McGowan did a nice job of expressing the value of the feminine. Loved it!

This was recommended to me. The friend said she couldn't put it down. Mine was not the same experience. I found this book to be average at best. I did not like the main character. She seemed egotistical and rather flat. The book was so bogged down with pseudo-mystery, as in - something mysterious is happening but we're not going to tell you yet. Problem was I didn't care. It actually reminded me of a Scooby doo episode. You know how at the end there was always a post mortem on events and a foiled plan by bad guys? The actual method of writing was good, but the story just lacked anything interesting. The best parts were the flashbacks and visions the main character had. I will not be buying anymore books in this series.

Kept me interested and felt like this was more a work of fact than fiction.Very healing for me too on profound levels.

This book had been recommended to me by a tour guide of 'ancient mysteries'while visiting France. I had read 'Holy Blood, Holy Grail' byMichael Baigent and Richard Leigh, who also uncover the theme and meaningbehind certain well known symbols. The mention of sacred geometry and leylines where cathedrals have been built. The masacre of the 'Cathars'at Montsegur. The mention of Freemason's. (French and Scot's) I am enjoyingKathleen McGowan's writing style and story telling. This book is engaging.I will buy another by same author, when I complete this one. She has done alot of research on the subject and discloses information that I did not know. I highly recommend to anyone who's interested in esoterica and ancient mysteries.

Why the author refers to Jesus by name used by Arabic speaking Moslems? why not his original Hebrew, or Aramaic name, or is she wwanted to use Arbic form, that why not the version used by Arabic speaking Christians? This book was a huge disapointment.Wanted to like it, but...Mary Magdalene deserves a better treatment.Instead of giving a plot summary, I am pointing out author's mistakes, but not all of them, just sampling, too many of those, would make a chapter pointing them out.First issue: the research. For ex. art history: the author assumes that any Mary in red robes is Mary Magdalene, even if she looks like Madonna, Virgin Mary. Author argues that Madonnas are dressed in blue only. Here the Kathleen McGowan shows insufficient research:if she paid more attention to art history she would know that Virgin was dressed in navy blue, other blues, grey, red, white, imperial purple, red robe and blue mantle over, etc. It depended on time, the school, and aspect. For example Madonna in her humility aspect was dressed in blue. Red symbolized charity. Etc. etc.etc. McGowan info about identifying MM in any occasion of Mary dressed in red is spreading misinformation.Colors were quite a complex issue, and narrowing the iconography down as author did isn't historically accurate, and is ignorant. Iconography is not so simplistic to just identify Virgin Mary because the figure is dressed in blue, or Mary Magdalene because she wears red. Not so simple as the author and some people assume.Or the ring given to Maureen: McGowan describes it as something special. Yet deducting from the description, it is a common pilgrim ring, this type was produced en masse during the Middle Ages.Regular history, sample example: the Borgias were sweet people after all, just vilified? Really? Also Marie Antoinette saying :"let them eat cake!" It is an old gossip, most likely a piece of hostile propaganda, I give credit to the author, yet what is translated as "cake" in English is brioche in French, a different kind of baked stuff, not a cake, it is like sweet bread, if you are no familiar with it. French quote is "S'ils n'ont plus de pain, qu'ils mangent de la brioche." Also Marie Antoinette as the Shepherdess, because there was a fashion in Europe to live bucolic life. Pastoral life style, highly idealized and romanticized was continuation of classical tradition in Europe.Need to research history, not jump to conclusions because it is convenient.Writing: is quite like some old fashioned romance, spiked with many words like " magnificent," wonderful," on an on. The part of writings which deal with older material are better, but somehow read like Sylvia Browne's claims to retro-cognition. Browne also wrote a historical novel about Jesus. The Expected One reads like Harlequin romance of an old fashion, like not belonging to this era, but to the times of corsets and fainting chairs and excessive affect in women. There are also some kitschy moments too. The main character is kind of weak, needs to have things explained to her, and of course is courted by an ultra rich aristocrat who lives in a castle provides a golden dress for the ball and there she is treated like a queen, as she is the shepherdess, the Expected One. Sorry, but it reads like a juvenile dream of unleashing the inner princes, quite a navel gazing ego trip.Plot and hype: as this book was selling with the hype of the author being the descendant of the lineage coming from Mary Magdalene and Jesus, and the author said that the novel is partially autobiographical some passages felt like if the author was weaving: "here reader, I am the Shepherdess, the Expected One, the new leader!" Too much personal psychology revealed. Some passages were also lazy plotted: instead of inventing some thrilling moments, the author just lets the expected one to find what she needs to find after having a revealing vision. Quite conveniant device for a writer writing a thriller, but disappointing for a reader. Ending unfulfilling.Assumptions: for the name "Paschal," as the author makes a big deal out of it in the book, and it was part of "proven facts" while marketing the book. This name (also the form Pascal), is common in France, also in Southern France and the West of Italy. It derives from the first name: Pascal. Like the last names such as Davis, or Simon, etc. come from first names. Pascal means "born on Easter." Pascha is Easter. But Pascal being really a Cathar name in particular? No.You find in the Cathar country names like Bonhomme, this really a Cathar name!Poor Mary Magdalene. But I hope the skills of the author will develop. I read the Book of Love and, and was better written. So, maybe the last book is much better? This book being offensive? Yes, for insulting readers' intelligence, not for supposedly "controversial" subject matter. It makes quite high rolling claims, in reality is catering to people who are not well versed in art history, iconography, cultural history.

I've read several accounts of escaping from North korea. This is a good one because it covers several subjects that are not covered in other books. For example hyeonseo grew up right on the border next to the Yalu river. There is extensive discussion of cross border smuggling in the book as her mother and other relatives were participants in this trade. Being so close to the border they could also get Chinese cell phone service and calls could be made to North Korea using Chinese cells. The other thing that is quite different about her story is that she spend more than a decade in China and was continually hiding from being discovered as an illegal therr. In one period she mentioned to others that she was from North Korea and its clear somebody reported her. She withstood an interrogation by the Chinese police and was able to convince them she was Chinese due to her ability to speak Mandarin and her mastery of Chinese Characters, which she attributes to her father pushing her to study while she was in school. She has dangerous interactions with gangs, which she survives, was assaulted badly by an unknown assailant with a 1 liter beer bottle, an incident that did put her in the hospital and other adventures. One learns a bit about China and North Korea in this book. She has relatives which span several classes of North Korean society and one can get a feeling for what those strata are like. She also talks about the great amount of indoctrination she received during her education, of course this is common among the accounts of DPRK defectors. Different that most of the defectors books she does describe the challenges facing defectors in South Korea. Their education is worthless and hence most of them severely struggle to obtain a college degree, which is important in South Korea. she also describes the process by which they vet defectors as well as the interrogation techniques of the Chinese police. Once she has made it to South Korea she brings her mother and brother out of North Korea. This activity has several difficult twists which meant that the plan had to change in major ways on the fly and the challenges of getting through China to another country to defect to a South Korean embassy are shown. They chose Laos, a backwater whose insufferable bureaucracy and corrupt civil service made things hard. A very helpful Australian saves the day. The story is interesting and one learns a fair bit about North Korea and China.

I had always been curious about North Korea, having heard about it in the news, and I thought this book would be interesting. It does have vivid descriptions of life in North Korea. It also turns out to be suspenseful and emotionally engaging. Once I started reading this book, I did not want to stop until I was done. The book is divided into parts, describing the author's life in North Korea, then her life in China (an entire decade), escape to South Korea, and finally, the ordeal of getting her mother and brother out of North Korea. I won't bother to summarize everything other than to say that her life was in significant danger in every place except for South Korea. In China, she makes a life and barely avoids deportation, being captured by human traffickers, and an arranged marriage to a complete zero. The biggest surprise for me was maybe how hard it is for North Koreans to adjust to life outside of their country. Of course, it is very different, and despite knowing that they will likely be tortured and killed if they go back, some want to return anyway. The author's own brother almost goes back in a moment of weakness, but she manages to talk him out of it.Thinking back on this story, it seems almost unbelievable that a person could have lived this life. It took huge amounts of courage, intelligence, and luck, all of which the author has.

I am Korean. Born in Seoul but raised in America since age 11. My grandparents were from North Korea so I grew up hearing lot of stories. I would 'hear' stories about North Korea after the war, their communist ways, people starving but I could not have imagined what exactly went on until I read this book. I could not stop reading once I started. I held onto my breath, cried and cheered as I read this book. This book will open your eyes and make you really appreciate for everything in life!

The book has four main parts. [1] The author’s life in North Korea. [2] The author’s life living as an “illegal alien” within China. [3] The author’s adaptation to life in South Korea, whose culture was markedly different from North Korean culture. [4] The author’s efforts to get her mother and brother from North Korea to South Korea. While the book gives the reader a basic idea of what life is like living in North Korea, it was the author’s determination, perseverance and resourcefulness that leaps off the pages and impresses the reader the most. Indeed, the book’s tone reads as if it’s of the “thriller” genre even though it’s actually non-fiction. A truly remarkable story of intelligence and courage (yet educational as well).Note: One reason for the book’s “thriller” tone was that many of the chapters end with a teaser sentence which urges the reader to immediately go on the next chapter. For an autobiographically work, I found that writing style a bit disconcerting.

This book is soooo great that I'm hoping for a whole series to this story. Mia is a very strong female and knew what she wanted from the start. Love was something that she thought she had in Tyson who she has been with for three months since they met at a club. Mia was also good friends with Logan who was friends with Tyson. Logan wanted more with Mia but he wasn't going to step in a relationship with Mia so friends is what he took. That was until one day Mia found Tyson's journals he wrote his hidden secret of sex with females, and the one he was cheating on Mia with.

While it was predictable I still think it was as well done. I appreciate that people who hurt you don't always deserve second chances, but the filthy pair are trying make better choices. Anyone who loves loves, finding commonalities and building on them will like this one.

Man, that was fking awesome, truthfully I wanted Logan to beat Tyson down. This was fabulous, I started this story early this morning and finished it by this afternoon. Mia character was just fun, her and Logan really flowed together. It was almost like breathing fresh air, and the naughty parts wow, I believe I even became wet.

This book was a page turner. I was in love with Logan from a distance too. Even though I was mad at Tyson those filthy parts got me excited. This book delivered on it's title and revealed the filthy lies along with erotic parts that Kenya Wright is so good at writing......I hope Karan has his own story.

Not what I expected, I would have enjoyed more about Logan and Mia but being this way it was just a journey for those two.Hopely Logan and Mia will be just fine together and have a HEA. Sleazy Tyson and his crazy butt which he got too much recognition.. Even he and Ashley taking a go at making their family work.

I absolutely loved this story!!!!!! I would not have mind dwelling into Tyson’s psychology a bit more. Please get this book

Thanks Kenya, it's been a while since I've read one of your books! I totally loved Nd recommend this filthy erotic second chance novel.

This story was raw and product of real people with real issues. The heroine was great and beautiful and a black woman. The hero was cool, sexy and a white man. These two chemistry is off the freaking charts! I want more Kenya!!! Great freaking work!😍😍💗💗💗
