#51,637 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I nominated "The Killdeer Connection" on Kindle Scout and was pleased to see that it was selected for publication by Amazon's Kindle Press. Due to the focus on fracking, I cannot tell you how much I anticipated the release of the book. And Tom Swyers did not disappoint. His story hooked me from page one and kept steaming along, just like the trains in the book. The intrigue and humor Swyers injected into the novel had me thinking, "This author is just as good if not better than John Grisham". If you like protagonists who rise up against corrupt corporations, you will love this book!

It seemed at first that the plot was a bit overdone, exaggerated. How realistic is it to believe that some power player would decide that is profitable for the common good to blow up train car after train car of oil as they run through towns and cities between North Dakota and New York and that he'd try to place the blame on one individual. And then I got to thinking about this country, this world today and came to realize that it probably isn't all that far a reach. Fiction authors write to entertain but more often than not they are also making a statement. Swyers definitely kept me entertained and when I finished the book I found myself sitting back and thinking about North Dakota and the oil fields, hoping that the descriptions he provided of the oil-boom towns and the greed were indeed exaggerations. I do fear where our world is going. It's five stars from me.

David is an attorney who is hitting bottom. Suddenly, he is given a case which has more twists and turns than he could ever imagine. It leads him to the core of his professional ethics and asks the difference between what is "legal" and what is "right". I most enjoyed the discovery part of David's trip into the world of fracking and the apparent dangers of certain types of crude oil. The characters were smoothly developed; but always in a little misty, which carried the plot to David's final discovery...at the very end. The Kildeer was a unique engine for the clues. There were spots that seemed a bit "first book" . Nevertheless I would take another round of Swyers work easily.

A sign that a book I've read is seriously entertaining is when I'm still thinking about the characters after I've finished the book-and these characters are like family. This isn't an extremely heavy book although it has it's truisms. I read as fast as possible because every turn of the page was possibly a new twist. It was exciting, clean as to language, no sex just a really great legal thriller. I highly recommend this book! :)HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! :)

It was okay. I found the writing a little disconnected with no follow-through - subjects and issues brought to the forefront and then left incomplete e.g.: at one point the lead character's physical discomfort when he is away in the fracking fields is impressed upon the reader - he finally (after days) manages to get a room in a hotel and finally might be able to sleep in a bed, bathe and eat a cooked meal - and not a mention of that after pages of the lack of those things being stressful & a major topic. The subject was abruptly dropped & never raised again. Huh? Also thought it was a pretty sad indictment on the US justice system - I don't think the FBI are allowed to throw anyone in prison on suspicion, & they also need evidence to charge someone. You can't make a charge based on suspicion. There are plenty of crims walking around out there because there isn't enough evidence on which to charge them. Thus, I found it somewhat hard to take seriously - yes its fiction but its amateur fiction - I really felt a judge should be able to do better than this. Our lead character should have been suing for wrongful arrest.Had a good story line but won't be rushing to download the rest unless I have nothing better to read.

Definitely a 4.5 on a scale of 5.Tom Swyers evidently knew my background as a retired legal secretary, and he brought lawyer David Thompson knocking at my door with a stellar mystery involving the oil industry, the environment, and yes, murder. Not just any murder but a murder landing Lawyer Thompson in jail.A bit slow out of the gate, Swyers quickly picks up the pace and begins his efforts to clear his character's name. I appreciated the character development and scenes as they rolled out, especially the use of nature in showing his readers the damages being wrought by improper use of certain chemicals in the environment.Swyers is a good writer with just a bit of wordiness getting in his way at times. But then, he too is an attorney and a judge, and they enjoy using a lot of words to keep the rest of us seeking the truth in the story. What better way to keep a lover of mystery engaged than by using lots of words!Kudos to Tom on another good read!

Progressive leftists will love the evil depiction of the oil and gas industries AND the elitist contempt for Americans who actually produce the wealth of the nation. Working middle class Americans might gain some insight into the depth of that contempt and it's paternalistic manifestations.

I enjoyed reading the book and learned a lot about the oil industry, fracking and bomb trains. I wish the significance of Harold and others being Muslims was explained. Added nothing to the story and left me wanting to know why they had American aliases, etc. It was distracting and led nowhere. The mystery and suspense-building was effective. I also felt that Annie and Christy were portrayed a bit shallowly and were both too child-like. Overall, though, I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to reading others.
