I highly recommend this book for high school, college and university students. It provides clear, step-by-step instructions on how to research and write research papers. Before I found this book I struggled with writing research papers and received B's for my effort, after I bought this book and followed the easy to read instructions, I achieved A+ on all my research papers and ultimately my classes. I recommend this books especially for high school students because learning the right way to write research papers and the whole process of research writing takes time to master and should be learned while in high school so that when you enter college or university you know how to write the many papers you will be asked to write. Each page of this book is packed with good advice and need to know information that, if you read carefully and follow exactly, will help you achieve the grades you want. More than that, there are tons of tips and tricks that make the process of writing research papers more interesting, easy and enjoyable. I have used this book and the A+ grades I received on my papers are a testament to the great instructions and advice that guide you every step of the way in this remarkable book.

This book was extremely helpful and well laid out. Being a person who struggles to complete college level papers, I went from receiving 70% grades to receiving 90%s or A's. When needing to reference material or research questions, the book made it very easy to find the material or answers needed. I would definitely recommend this for any college student or even high school ages student.

Lester, Jr."Corinthian Colleges Inc. is the for-profit college that has been the subject of state district attorney investigations in numerous states, paying $6.5 million in California and agreeing to forgive student debt but admitting no wrongdoing.Comparing this book to the Lester book from 1993 (from my library, all I have to go by), the table of contents appears similar; 40 more pages in 2010 probably about Internet searching. Are the books comparable--how much was taken from the original Lester book, and what was replaced? I hope for the sake of the trusting Corinthian students that the contents are reliable.Some of the examples may be self-serving. The section on searching the database of the Library Congress refers to legislation concerning student loans.I am writing a nonacademic paper and money is tight, so this version will suffice. You get extra credit for critical reading skills with this one.

Perfect for school

Do not buy this book used. It requires a code for online use if you purchase it for education use. The code can be purchased without the book and is far better.

A good book on the technical aspects of writing research papers. I found parts of it a little challenging for beginning students, but overall it can be a helpful resource.

Lester's "Writing Research Papers" is still the standard reference tool for university students and high school students who have to write research papers. It also provides an excellent rubric for developing and organizing any type of essay, not just research papers. I first encountered this book as an undergraduate in it's fourth edition. I had previously used Coyle and similar books as required resources. Comparatively, Lester wins hand down because it is concise with good examples. Many editions later, in the world of electronic communications, Lester is still relevant as it has been updated to provide an accepted standard for citing electronic reference and Web sources. I have had to purchase three additional copies since my first, one for each of my sons. In fact I really need to get the most recent edition for my own use since my youngest will taking his copy with him when he heads off to college. This is a must have reference tool for any serious student and a good resource for the professional.

My sister needed this book for a writing class she was taking. The book helped her format a research paper and made her class a little bit easier.
